Last summer, we joined the ranks of the smokeless firepit people. Our older kids are not huge fans of smelling smoke or smelling like smoke. So, this was the perfect addition to our backyard to not only up our overall enjoyment but also give us a little something to do together. The firepit we went with is the Breeo, and this is our honest, NOT sponsored, review of their products. We love them! We landed on the Breeo for one main reason: it's made in the US by workers who are paid a living wage. That was the biggest draw when we really started looking for the right product for us. Reviews were all good, and I was excited about the accessory products they had available as well. Who doesn't want a heat deflector for winter or a grill? The Fire PitFor the firepit itself, I ordered the X24: their mid-size model. They share a plethora of information on their site to help decide which size is best. With our 15 foot round space, this was the right size for us. I was surprised by how heavy it was coming out the box (the X-series is very substantial, but the Y-series is more portable!), and needed assistance getting it in place in the back yard. Once we started firing it up though, it was completely worth it. The other thing that really surprised me was the quality and materials of the packaging. There was almost no plastic in the entire set up. I ordered the lid with the firepit as part of my first order, and the only bit of plastic in the entire order held the lid's handle and its hardware. I was very impressed. Setting up a smokeless fire is also a lot easier than I thought it would be. All we needed to do was set up our logs in a log-cabin-style fire, and use some of the kindling to get the wood started. Then, we get to settle in with marshmallows and hot dogs. AccessoriesIf we're not feeling hot dogs or food-on-a-stick, I love that they've really come up with other ways to make this fire pit the best possible backyard tool. The first accessory that we ordered was the grill post, and having the flexibility to drop our gas grill and cook on this open flame is really fun for all of us! (No hate to grillers, we just realized it's not our thing!) The grill post also holds the heat deflector, which makes the firepit area much warmer for an even more extended-season of backyard fires. Now the firepit is another excuse to get outside in the winter and settle in for some snacks! The tools available are also really safety-conscious. We have both the fireproof gloves and the fire poker, and just added the grilling gloves. Being able to safely handle what we're grilling and burning or adjust the heat deflector is a huge bonus. We added the ash shovel as well for more ease of maintenance. I could keep going with the tools... they have a lot of great options. I have a hard time really coming up with downsides to this firepit. The price point is higher than others, but the quality and domestic manufacturing are both worthy factors. Really, it boils down to the things that are hard about all fire pits: kids' safety. So far, so good! And I'm sure we'll keep getting more and more practice with that as time goes on.
