We are just about done with this guy! It's Week 7 of the One Room Challenge -or One Garage Challenge- and we are so so close to wrapping things up over here! I'm absolutely thrilled with where we've come through this process, and really excited to see other projects come together as well. As always, check out the other projects progress throughout each week here! For anyone who needs to get caught up on the "One Garage Challenge," check it out week by week: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 French DrainIn the rush to get as much done before the ground freezes, all of us over age 5 worked on getting the French drain installed around the garage perimeter this week. After finding the sill plate and the foundation not exactly having real structure, the biggest end-goal for this project quickly became water mitigation and flood prevention. I didn't document as much of this process as I could have, because the one day we had available was rainy and gross. It was hard work, but I can confidently say we didn't overheat, and we were all committed to getting it done as fast as possible. So, we dug our trench around the perimeter of the garage, and connected it to a low point in our yard and out to the alley so water would have a place to go around the garage. Then we lined the trench, and added fill and stone to allow water to move away from, instead of into, the garage. Overall, it's looking really great! If I get nothing else done on this guy until spring, I'll be pretty happy. But I do hope to get some things cleaned up around the yard so we have a chance to use this area moving forward. Inside the yard, it's near our firepit circle. Outside the yard, it's adjacent to our parking pad and the alley, so it's definitely a spot we need functional.
As always, regular updates for this project and others can be found over on my Instagram. All the day-to-day trials and tribulations are in the Garage highlight. Onward to the finale!
