The attic theme this week was heat wave! I wasn't expecting my second week of the autumn One Room Challenge and the start of October to be in the 90s, so I didn't get as much progress done as I planned for this week. But, as always, I have contingencies built into my timeline. Since this is my fifth One Room Challenge, I know these projects can be unpredictable, and aside from being sidelined by heat, I was also sidelined with a migraine for a few days. It was a bummer! But it happens. For more on the overall plan of what we will get done this autumn as well as what we want to get done in the future, check out last week's post! And to check in with all the challenge participants, head over here! ElectricalThe biggest thing I started this week was pulling the old electrical and starting to run the new. Since one ceiling light needed to be removed and another moved from the wall into the ceiling, I had to finish these before Phase Two insulation went in. Back when we had our major electrical disaster last year, I really had one of the best electrical subcontractors out to replace our knob and tube, and he helped to make some of the "wants" for this house future-proof, including getting the attic prepped for usable space. Finish DeliveriesOne of our last sets of samples came this week as well, and it's been a challenge to figure out the best way to finish out the space without losing too much headroom or being too heavy. We're making a risky decision to use wallpaper, but considered bead board too. I'm mostly nervous about hanging the wallpaper on the angled ceilings over the stairs, but I'll manage. As for the knee walls and the stair wall that won't be wallpapered: I'm doing bead board here. It's been a great material in other places in our house, and it'll be much easier to cut and install solo with the small amount of workspace. So, I have some catch up to do! But our next big step is installing the door at the bottom of the stairs. It turns out we've been having cat shenanigans in the attic, and no one needs that! We've been successful keeping the kids out of the attic while work is in progress, now we really have to lock it down. That'll help get some lumber out of the living room too.
