The new doors are done, and they are in! When I decided to change this to a bedroom and move the doorway, the biggest challenge was figuring out the doors to the room and the closet. While I had the doors on hand, I wasn’t worried about getting them refinished (I’ve refinished every door in our basement.), I was concerned about how door swings would project into a small bedroom.
With these two doors swinging into the room, the light switch would be behind the bedroom door, or the door would swing awkwardly into the middle of the room -an issue remedied last year in the upstairs bedroom. I wanted to make sure how we installed the door really worked for what we needed in the room. So, I decided to hang these as pocket doors!

As much as I’m excited to get this bedroom going, it’s definitely taken a bit more time than I wanted to get moving on it. While there are a variety of excuses, the big issues were how much I dislike emptying rooms, demoing walls, and needing help moving the big things. It’s me. I’m the problem.
But now that I’ve recruited enough help and carved out enough time, we’re getting going! I have the bed in the room, the desks out, and the wall ready to hang some doors. As an office, I never prioritized adding the closet door, and the door to the office was always quite narrow. So, a big part of this project did involve taking down the entry to the room for a reconfiguration. One of the big things we did when we put in the basement bathroom back in 2022 was to add a little nook for laundry machines at the back of the space. The layout of the bathroom space was particularly tricky… since it was a storage/laundry room that also housed the electrical panel. Since an electrical panel can’t be in the bathroom, we split the room in half and created a little nook for a stackable washer and dryer.
Planning for the bathroom project can be found here and the reveal can be found here! As progress went on, the laundry hall got some attention here. Even though that was a while ago… we waited for the right machines to come along, and it turns out that’s just one laundry machine. |
