As we get to the end of the growing season, I'm inundated with herbs from across the yard. In our front yard, we often plant annual herbs like sage, basil, and rosemary. For the past several years, we've grown perennial chives, oregano, thyme, and mint. We're in USDA agricultural zone 4b, which really helps us know what will grow well here and how to plant and care for each plant, though we've been in a drought this year that has been really hard on a lot of our plants.

So, the One Room Challenge is over, and the exterior of the garage is looking great! A French drain is in place to help mitigate the flooding, an awning is in so we can get inside easily in the rain, and the roof and window have been repaired... not to mention a mural on the garage door. Now What?
We still have a lot that we plan to do with this garage. When there are ferns growing inside and no real foundation... there must be some other problems. And honestly, until last year, our plan was to hope a neighboring tree would fall on it, but now? I want to use the space we have for the next decade or so! With the insurance company contribution to re-shingle the roof, and the couple hundred we put in during the One Room Challenge (final financial break down is in here!), we are investing in what we have now. Temporary or not, I want to really be able to use what we have for more than a cross between a glorified dumpster and a storage unit. One of the most satisfying things about finishing a project over here is the time spent catching up on things that I wasn't able to do while I was mid-project. The first thing I do is always clean the kitchen! Since that's the center of the house and not as kid-heavy, it almost always becomes the chaos space when I'm working. And getting it cleaned up has been amazing.
Cleaning is also essential going into winter: half the kids have winter birthdays, and with holiday gifts, baking, and cooking we enter a different kind of chaos. Especially in the kitchen. Our Black Friday tradition is the opposite of shopping (I'm usually done with most gifts by Halloween): we go through our belongings and do a major purge. It's week 8 of the One Room Challenge! So much has happened for all our spaces, finished or not, and I am so thankful to have been part of this fall's participants. Check out the other reveals and see all of the participants' progress over each week here!
I am so excited about what we've done over the last eight weeks: my thoughts about this "glorified shed" have completely turned around while investing a little time into this project. Check out where we started, weekly progress, and all the specific projects week by week: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | Mural Tutorial We are just about done with this guy! It's Week 7 of the One Room Challenge -or One Garage Challenge- and we are so so close to wrapping things up over here! I'm absolutely thrilled with where we've come through this process, and really excited to see other projects come together as well. As always, check out the other projects progress throughout each week here!
